Media and data-technology company Benzinga, organizer of the annual Cannabis Capital Conference, was pleased to announce the opening of its Virtual Deal Room on June 30, 2020. The online video conference replaces the event previously scheduled for April 1, 2020 at Detroit’s 17-floor One Campus Martius building (cancelled because of the coronavirus). The Benzinga Virtual Deal Room is devoted to the same aims that have made the Cannabis Capital Conference series an invaluable resource for the investor community. The annual gathering has been channeling capital to productive use by fostering relationships between investors and entrepreneurs since its debut in 2010.
Benzinga’s Virtual Deal Room (http://nnw.fm/3fA1e) was focused on psychedelics, an entirely new field that has popped up within the last decade. It’s a space that has been attracting a lot of investor attention, especially since the FDA permitted testing on a number of hallucinogenic substances. The agency has approved the “psychedelic ingredient in magic mushrooms for a drug trial for treatment-resistant depression” (http://nnw.fm/t6QrH). It’s given the go-ahead to life sciences company Compass Pathways to conduct clinical trials — testing on humans — using psilocybin, the stuff that gives magic mushrooms their magic. The FDA has also approved esketamine, used as a nasal spray, for the same condition: treatment-resistant depression (http://nnw.fm/1Rf4g). And it’s allowing a program for MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for posttraumatic stress disorder to expland (http://nnw.fm/6Y5x3).
The Virtual Deal Room featured three companies — Eleusis, MindMed and EHɅVE — that are developing products based on psychedelics, with senior executives telling their corporate stories. Eleusis was represented by chairman and founder Shlomi Raz; co-CEO Jamon “JR” Rahn represented MindMed (NEO: MMED) (OTC: MMEDF), the first psychedelic pharmaceutical company to go public; and CEO Ben Kaplan appeared on behalf of EHɅVE. The detailed presentations offered investors a 101 on the fast-developing psychedelic space.
